July 30, 2010 | Jesse | Larchmont | I am an avid, lifelong fan of the NYW&BR...and so, how do I become a "friend"? | July 31, 2010 | Sil | Pelham | Excellent website. I support your cause! Lets hope there is funding to restore the bridge and make it a more useful part of the community. | August 16, 2010 | Nina | Mt. Vernon | My 4 year old absolutely loves trains. Because of him, I remembered people talking about remnants from an old train line when I was growing up and I went to find out more information about it. When I realized there was a train line that once stopped at so many places I drive to daily I couldn't believe it. There seems to be so little information and so little being actively preserved, easily located, shared, and enjoyed from the NYW&B that it just doesn't make sense. It would be wonderful if this part of the NYW&B could be saved and turned into a major piece of a park. I know my son and I would love it. Looking at the old train route, I still can't help but wonder how much different my life would be if the train remained running. | August 26, 2010 | Travelsonic | Westchester | I want to start a campaign similar to the one being done to save the overpass in Pelham, but for another NYW&B relic. Catenary bridge #1 just north of West Farms junction still stands, with a couple of other wire/electrical structures. It is, to my knowledge, the LAST purely NYW&B catenary tower. "In addition to carrying the westward home boards, it was at this point that the overhead power switched from NYNH&H to NYW&B" according to a railroad.net forum post. | November 2, 2010 | Steven | | This is a praiseworthy effort to save one of the few remaining prominent architectural features of what was once an amazing transit system. Removing the Highbrook Bridge would have a devastating impact on the surrounding community. It should be preserved, and I support your efforts to do so. | November 12, 2010 | Henry | Long Island | I grew up in Mt. Vernon and now live on Long Island. I applaud your efforts to save this beautiful bridge. | March 13, 2011 | Rob | Pelham | Visionary idea for Pelham! | April 5, 2011 | Sean | | I have for a long time been an avid researcher of the history of the NYW&B. I think this is a terrific and worthwhile effort. I wish you all the best of luck and hope to get good news via the email list. | June 27, 2011 | John | | I grew up in a house that abuts the bridge, and back in the 1970s, the bridge and surrounding undeveloped areas was a major playground for the neighborhood kids. Good luck. |
